Round Robin Quilts!

At our September meeting we unveiled our completed round robin quilts.  We had 8 participants that split into 2 groups.  Each member created a center block of their choosing and the blocks were passed from person to person in each group, resulting in 3 borders.  Participants could choose to include their own fabric, or just be surprised with the results, and each member had one month to work on the border, before passing it on to the next group member at the following month's meeting.  Below are the results (please forgive the bad photography) - nice job everyone!

Christmas in July

It was a productive day on July 9th, for members of the Prairie Threads quilt guild.  It was our first sew-in for Christmas stockings for the Optimist's Club Christmas drive.

It is anticipated that they will need up to 140 Christmas stockings, filled with toys and goodies for children in need this year.  We didn't get all of them done, but the group did make progress - approximately 30 Christmas stockings were completed.

If everyone pitches in over the next few months and makes a few stockings then we should be able to make our goal.  There is no set size, most that were completed could be considered "medium" sized, and the techniques used varied.  Some are lined, and others, if made with heavier fabrics, were left unlined.

A separate email with the meeting minutes will follow for all.  More information on the Des Moines quilt show trip at the end of September will also be sent out soon!

Quick Update!

We had a great, interactive time at our last meeting on May 4th.  We welcomed another new member, Deb from Harrisburg, and some of our snowbirds have returned north for the summer. Lori demonstrated the wavy ruler and showed us all how easy it is to sew curved pieces - I guess there is no need to be afraid of them any longer!

Complete meeting minutes will be forthcoming, but the big news is our new meeting time at 6:30 pm instead of 7:00 pm.  Also, the July meeting has been moved to Saturday the 9th of July at 9:00 am so that we can have plenty of time to sew stockings for the Optimists toy drive.  Bring your machines and any embellishments you may have, along with a salad for a salad sampling pot luck!

The Siouxland Samplers have invited us to enter quilts in their quilt show - more information is available on their website here: http://www.siouxlandsamplers.org/.  An entry form in PDF format will be sent to all members, along with the full meeting minutes from May.

Upcoming - the Tulip Festival's Quilt Show, presented by the Sioux Prairie Quilters guild is upcoming May 19th - 21st.

See you all soon!

Hopping Along!

Not only is the Easter Bunny right around the corner, the Crossing Borders Shop Hop is rapidly approaching!  The shop hop begins on April 30th and continues through May 7th.  There are 9 shops in the SE Minnesota and Eastern South Dakota region that are participating in this fun event.

We currently have a small group of Prairie Threaders that are interested in hopping, or at least carpooling, to several of the stores on Saturday, April 30th.  If you are interested in joining us, please let us know.  Not only will you get to see shops that you may not have the opportunity to visit very often, but you'll also score a free runner pattern and pewter charm (while supplies last), at each shop.

The shops involved are:
Fabrics Plus, Marshall, MN
The Sewing Basket, Luverne, MN
Prairie Quilting, Windom, MN
Crafty Corner, Worthington, MN
Lone Tree Legend Quilts, Lake Preston, SD
Always Your Design, Dell Rapids, SD
Canton Quilt Corner, Canton, SD
Dakota Quilt Shop, Watertown, SD
Dutch Rose Quilt Shop, Sioux Falls, SD

If we don't see you at the shop hop, we hope to see you at our next meeting on May 4th.

Until then, Hoppy Sewing and ...

We Have a Name!

Yippee!  It's official, we have a name for our once nameless quilt guild.  For some folks it wasn't a big deal, but for others, it provided a sense of identity for our new group.

The Prairie Threads Quilt Guild meets on the 1st Wednesday of the month, at 7 pm at the Canton Quilt Corner in Canton, SD - you can't miss it - the building looks like this:
It's a really cool old brick building that used to be home to a bank.  It's now home to our hosts, Lori & Bob, owners of Canton Quilt Corner.  The old bank vaults hold a whole new kind of valuables now- fabric!  Stop by and say hi to Lori and Bob, or come join us for a Prairie Threads quilt guild meeting.  I think you'll have fun either way!  Cheers!
